Client Service Pathway

A clear step-by-step process to help you get started

01

Referral

A referral for an occupational therapy assessment can be made by parent(s), health professional(s) (doctor, speech pathologist, physiotherapist, social worker, dietician), educator, or specialist (paediatrician, psychiatrist). A referral can be made by calling 03 5940 3857 or through our website here

02

Contact

Our Sweet Paeds Therapy team will contact you to support you through the initial steps of our process. This may include gathering further information about the needs of the infant, child or adolescent (client), offering an Initial Consultation if suitable, or being waitlisted.

If you would like further information about our services and whether they are suitable for the needs of the client, you are able to contact us on 03 5940 3857.

03

Initial Consultation

Initial Consultations can be completed with an occupational therapist, parent or carer, and client across one or more sessions (depending on the reason for referral and the client's current capabilities).
Where the reason for referral contains sensitive information, it may be more appropriate for the parent to attend without the child.
Initial Consultations help our therapists to gather necessary information including client history of health, development, current strengths and challenges, to individualise the next steps of our service provision

04

Assessment

An occupational therapy assessment can help us to understand if the concerns for the child's development can be supported through Occupational Therapy. From the Initial Consultation, our team will be able to identify which assessments will be most suitable to administer, as well as the number of assessment sessions required for your child. This depends on which assessments are recommended as well as the child's ability to participate in the assessment process.
Following the assessment process, you will be provided with a report including recommendations for frequency and duration of therapy, at-home strategies, various programs, and if required, referral to other health professionals (e.g. speech pathologist, physiotherapist, dietician).
